Woman critically injured after man pulls up beside her moving car, shoots her near Milford
A young woman was critically injured Wednesday afternoon after a man pulled up to the side of her car and shot her "numerous" times while she was driving, Delaware State Police said.
First responders were called to Route 14 near Sandbox Road around 3:13 p.m. Wednesday following reports of a car that had crashed and overturned.
Radio scanner traffic Wednesday afternoon initially said two people were in the car, one of whom was "unconscious with facial injuries." A first responder on the scene later said one of the people had been shot in the head.
The woman was taken to a local hospital by paramedics. She was listed in critical condition, police said.
Police have released few details about what led to the shooting, but said the woman was driving west on Route 14 when an "unknown suspect in a dark SUV" crossed the double-yellow line and pulled up next to her car.
The suspect then shot into the woman's car "numerous times" before driving away. The woman lost control of her car after being shot and crashed in a nearby field.
Police said they do not believe the shooting was a "random incident," but ask anyone with information to contact detectives at 302-365-8441.
