A fall holiday tradition on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, the Reindeer Stampede 5k run andwalk will celebrate two decades Saturday, November 24.
“We are excited for the 20th anniversary of the Stampede,” said Lance Skinner, assistant coach of the Milford cross country team and this year’s organizer. “Going into the 20th year, we’re hoping to beat last year’s number of 260.”
The Reindeer Stampede began in 1998, started by Milford’s head coach of cross country, Czar Bloom. He is now with Polytech and the Milford Cross Country Boosters.
“The proceeds benefit the Milford High School Cross Country program with a wide range of things,” Skinner said. “Gear for the kids, buying shoes or clothing for athletes that may not be able to be outfitted properly and our end of season awards.”
Over the 20 years it has grown from a cross country team event to a community event.
“This event has grown significantly over the years and a lot of that is credited to the timing,” Skinner said. “This family fun event is open to walkers and runners; we also encourage all current and former cross country runners to participate.”
This year’s race will be used to celebrate the life of an important member of the boosters.
“This year will be dedicated in the memory of former boosters president Carolyn Hinton, who passed away last year,” Skinner said. “We plan to make a contribution in her memory to a local nonprofit organization.”
Registration is $20 if runners/walkers register by Nov. 17, $25 after Nov. 17 and up to race day. Team registration is available for groups of five: $80 per team before Nov. 17 and $100 after.
Those interested in participating in this year’s race can register at online TriSportsEvents.com or registration forms can be downloaded at milfordxc.com and mailed back.
