Democrat for Delaware Auditor of Accounts
Each candidate was asked to respond to three questions.
1. What are the top issues you will address in your campaign and what are your plans for moving those issues forward?
Being State Auditor is about giving all Delawareans the confidence to know that their tax dollars are being spent wisely and not wasted.
That means I will be your advocate, not only combating waste fraud and abuse, but also bringing a common-sense approach to finding missed opportunities and find ways our state can operate smarter, more efficiently, and more effectively.
To do that, I will be sure that the Auditor’s office has the staffing, resources and technology necessary to do the job it was designed to do. Second, I will operate transparently so our citizens know what is happening with their tax dollars. Finally, I am going to be an active auditor so that this office can be relevant to all Delawareans.
2. What makes you uniquely qualified for the political office you seek?
As the Auditor of Accounts, you have to make sure that the numbers add up, you can manage an office of professionals, and you know how government works.
For nearly two decades, I have was a Rehoboth Beach Commissioner. During my tenure, I pushed for the state to help fund a multi-million dollar streetscape aesthetics and infrastructure upgrade and garner nearly $80 million in public and private investment in the City. Recently, my oversight of the new city hall construction project saved taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars. Consistently, I have fought waste, fraud and abuse while on the City Commission. As City Commissioner, I continuously advocate for efficiency, transparency and good government.
Plus, being a small business owner and serving on countless nonprofit boards, committees and commissions including the city Budget and Finance Committee, I know what it means to hold people accountable, create and stick to a budget, manage people.
3. What community groups are you involved with and in what capacity?
I have spent my adult life volunteering thousands of hours for non-profit boards and committees. Currently, I’m serving as a Delaware State University Trustee and on the boards of the State of Delaware Motion Picture and Television Development Commission, CAMP Rehoboth, and Meals on Wheels (Lewes-Rehoboth). I have was on the Board of the Rehoboth Beach Homeowners Association, Delaware Pharmacists Society, and the Sussex Family YMCA. As a proud member of the Rehoboth Sunrise Rotary club, I truly believe in service above self.
As a City of Rehoboth Beach Commissioner, I serve on the city’s, Budget and Finance Committee, the Audit and Personnel Committees and the Chair of the city Tourism Committee. I also be the City liaison for the National Award-winning Rehoboth Beach Main Street.
