Gun found in center console
Delaware State Police arrested an Ellendale man after a vehicle pursuit led to the discovery of a firearm.
The incident occurred around 11:45 a.m. on Monday, June 8, 2020, when a trooper observed the driver of a red Ford Expedition failing to stop at a stop sign and cross over the double solid line at East Robbins and South Old State Roads. A traffic stop was initiated and the driver failed to stop. A pursuit ensued, with the driver of the Expedition traveling at a high rate of speed. The driver eventually came to a stop in a driveway on South Old State Road.
The driver, identified as 26-year-old Qwantay V. Taylor, was taken into custody without further incident. Traveling as passengers in the Expedition during the incident were five juveniles, ranging from ages two to 15. The youngest child was not in a car seat.
A search of the vehicle was conducted and, according to police, led to the discovery of a concealed handgun inside of the center console.
Taylor was charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, disregarding a police officer signal, five counts of endangering the welfare of a child, child under eight not in child restraint, failure to obey traffic device and traffic offenses. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $87,004 secured bond.
