Nonprofit organizations and community groups will raise awareness and funds at Dover International Speedway, 1131 N. Dupont Highway, as the Monster Mile will host the ninth annual Monster Miles for a Cause, presented by Bayhealth, beginning at 8 a.m. Oct. 20.

The event is free and open to nonprofit groups as an opportunity to use the Speedway’s grounds Oct. 20 to raise awareness and funds. Regular meetings are coordinated where groups can work together on event details.

Among the activities scheduled are a full and half marathon and 1-mile fun walks, all benefiting area causes. The events include:

— Monster Mash Full and Half-Marathon: 7 a.m. Times can be used to qualify for the Boston Marathon. About 700 people participated in 2017, representing nearly 40 states. Sign-in times, maps and more are available at The event benefits the Wounded Warrior Project.

— Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation “All4One” One-Mile Fun Walk: The fun walk will begin at 9 a.m. and will be coordinated by Karen Ptak, a Dover International Speedway employee who began supporting the cause after her son, Bobby Cutchin, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. For more, visit

— Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition ninth annual 1e-Mile Fun Walk: Join breast cancer survivors, friends and families on a Halloween-themed 1-mile walk, including a costume and fundraising awards, beginning at 10 a.m. For more, visit

— Delaware Humanities second annual 1-Mile Fun Walk: 11 a.m. Participants will join Delaware Humanities board and staff members and support the programs and grants Delaware Humanities offers around the State. For more, visit

Bayhealth, in its second year as a presenting sponsor, will have an informational display from 8 a.m. to noon. Grotto Pizza and Amy’s Ice Cream will be on-site, and beer will be available for purchase.
