Driver fled the scene
Delaware State Police are investigating a serious crash involving a pedestrian in Georgetown.
The incident occurred on Sunday, July 22, at 9:15 p.m., as a GMC work van was traveling westbound on County Seat Highway (Route 9), approaching Tyndall Road. A pedestrian was walking in the same lane for unknown reasons and was struck by the van, which did not stop and continued westbound.
A witness provided a brief description of the vehicle and a trooper on patrol in the area was able to conduct a traffic stop on a van matching that description. Damage was observed to the front of the vehicle, connecting it to the collision.
The pedestrian, a 30-year-old Milford man, sustained critical injuries and was transported by ambulance to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital. He was later transferred to Christiana Hospital.
The operator of the van, 25-year-old Isai Vazquez-Cifuentes from Salisbury, Maryland, was found to be driving without a license. He was charged with driving without a license, leaving the scene of a personal injury collision and failure to report a personal injury collision. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $2,001 cash bond.
The roadway was closed for approximately three hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
