The victim crossed the center line for unknown reasons
UPDATE: Delaware State Police have identified Thomas D. Clarke, 63, of Georgetown as the operator of a Chevrolet pickup truck that was killed in the crash.
The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash that occurred on Saturday, July 21, in Georgetown.
Around 2:45 p.m., a 63-year-old Georgetown man was driving a Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck northbound on West Piney Grove Road, south of East Trap Pond Road. For unknown reasons, he traveled off the right edge of the road into a grassy area before reentering the roadway and crossing the center line, directly into the path of a Jeep Cherokee being driven by a 53-year-old Georgetown woman, and the two collided.
The operator of the Chevrolet, who was unrestrained, was trapped in the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Identification is pending the notification of next of kin.
The operator of the Jeep, who was properly restrained, was transported to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The roadway was closed for approximately 3 hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.
