The bodies have been turned over to state authorities for autopsy.

Delaware State Police are conducting a death investigation at a home near Hartly.

Division spokeswoman Master Cpl. Melissa Jaffe said the probe started at about 11:27 a.m. Tuesday, May 29 when troopers were sent to the home, located in the 4000 block of Arthursville Road, to perform a welfare check.

The two people were found dead inside the house, which is about one mile north of the town center. The individuals have been identified as 87-year-old John James and his 81-year-old wife, Mary James.

Jaffe said their remains have been turned over to the Division of Forensic Science where an autopsy will be performed to determine the manner and cause of death.

The investigation into this incident by the Delaware State Police Homicide Unit is continuing.
