Paid employment for full-time or part-time college students in Delaware, starting in June

The Delaware State Police are accepting applications for the paid position of cadet trooper for college students ages 18-21.

The cadet trooper’s primary duties include the enforcement of handicap parking and fire lane violations; however, cadets are also used in various administrative duties such as traffic control at large events and foot patrol at the Delaware State Fair.

The cadets will complete 40 hours of mandatory classroom instruction and will be assigned to various troops throughout the state.

Since the program began in 1998, the Delaware State Police have hired 69 cadet troopers, and 22 of those cadets have gone on to be hired as state troopers.

The employment period is expected to start in June.

Current pay is $13.04 per hour.

Minimum qualifications to be considered for a cadet's job include:

• Education -- A candidates must be a Delaware resident enrolled full time or part time in an undergraduate program at an accredited college in Delaware.

• Age -- A candidate must be between the ages of 18-21.

• Citizenship -- A candidate must be a citizen of the United States.

• Driver’s License -- A candidate must possess a valid driver’s license.

The selection process includes the formal State of Delaware application, an oral board interview, a polygraph examination and a background check.
