Here are some fun First State events to dive into this weekend.

1. Eclectic artist Roberto Lugo has a “Jarring” exhibit that aims to tug on your emotions.

“Jarring” is used as a metonym to suggest a double meaning of a jar as both a container and the subject that’s held within.

Since an urn contains remnants in the form of ashes, it becomes a symbol of the person who’s remembered, creating an easily digestible memorial.

This exhibit paradoxically confronts the viewer directly with the subject. The resulting discomfort can also be “jarring.”

In addition to being a ceramicist, Lugo is a poet and social activist.

“Jarring” is on display at The Delaware Contemporary, 200 S. Madison St., in Wilmington from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday and Saturday. COST Free. INFO or 656-6466.

2. What do you call a group of men in Luchador masks, clad in suits with musical instruments?

It’s none other than the band Los Straitjackets. Specializing in rock ‘n’ roll and surf tunes, the band entertains both your eyes and ears.

The mysterious outfit will be joined by Marshall Crenshaw at Dogfish Head Brewings & Eats, 320 Rehoboth Beach Ave., at 10 p.m., Friday. COST Free. INFO 226-BREW or

3. If you’re headed down to the beach this weekend, it might be worth your time to check out some nifty artwork in Milford.

The Mispillion Art League is hosting its summer exhibit. MAL offers a mix of talented artists and there’s always something for everyone.

Whether you’re leaving from or going to the beach, you can take a short detour to see the summer show at the Mispillion Art League, 5 N. Walnut St., in Milford from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday; and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday. COST Free. INFO or 430-7646.
