Joseph A. Smith Jr., a 39-year-old Milford man, was arrested in Wilmington on Dec. 11 and charged with failure to re-register as a sex offender, said Milford police spokesman Det. Dwight Young.
Milford detectives first attempted to locate Smith at his registered address located on Marshall Street in October. He had failed to re-register and provide verification of his address and other personal information for his Tier 3 sex offender status.
Detectives discovered that Smith no longer lived at the residence and did not have the same employer. They found that he had fled the area.
On Dec. 11, the Wilmington Police Department located and apprehended Smith in Wilmington on Milford police’s arrest warrant.
Smith was committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington in default of $2,000 secured bond.
