The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash that occurred near Ellendale on Wednesday afternoon, said police spokesman Master Cpl. Gary Fournier.
Police said the incident happened around 1:45 p.m. as Cora L. Lofland, 62, of Ellendale, was driving a 1993 Mercury Villager westbound on Fleatown Road approaching the intersection of North Old State Road with a posted stop sign.
Angel Gabriel Marquez Torres, 39, of Harrington, was driving a 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse northbound on North Old State Road approaching the intersection with Fleatown Road. North Old State Road is a throughway and is not required to stop.
As Lofland approached the intersection, she failed to come to a complete stop and pulled directly into the path of the Eclipse, which then struck the Villager on the driver's side within the intersection.
Both vehicles continued in a northwesterly direction and the Villager came to a stop after striking a pole. The Eclipse came to a stop in the grass on the northwest side of the intersection.
Lofland was taken by EMS to Milford Memorial Hospital where she was admitted in serious condition.  On Friday afternoon, Lofland succumbed to her injuries and died.
Torres, who was properly restrained, was also taken by EMS to Milford Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident. Alcohol is not a factor in this case and no charges will be forthcoming.
North Old State Road at Fleatown Road was closed for approximately two hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
