A 28-year-old man from Pennsylvania was arrested and charged by Harrington police with driving under the influence after they spotted him driving in the wrong direction on South Dupont Highway early Sunday morning.
Thomas Shreppel, of the 800 block of Ringtown Road in Zion Grove, Pa., is facing DUI and related charges, according to Lt. Earl K. Brode, spokesman for the Harrington Police Department.
Harrington police spotted a vehicle while on patrol at 4:44 a.m. in the area of Shaw Ave. traveling northbound on South Dupont Highway, Brode said.
Police then saw the vehicle drive through the yard of a business and then through the parking lot of the business. The vehicle then drove through the yard again and began traveling southbound on South Dupont Highway, said Brode.
Police stopped the vehicle in the parking lot of the Super 8 Motel located at 17010 South Dupont Highway where they contacted the driver, identified as Shreppel, and detected an odor of alcohol.
Police administered standard field sobriety tests before taking Shreppel into custody, Brode said.
Shreppel is charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to drive in the proper lane and in the proper direction, failure to obey a traffic control device and failure to have a registration card in possession.
He was released to a family member pending a future court appearance in Justice of the Peace Court 7 in Dover.
