A Smyrna woman in her late 40s was struck by a car Monday night while crossing Route 13 in Smyrna by the Relax Inn.

Interim Smyrna Police Chief Norman Wood said the police were called at 8:08 p.m. to the area of the Relax Inn and Route 13 for a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. Wood said the woman was hit by a Pontiac Grand Am.

"The woman is in critical condition at Christiana Hospital," Wood said.

As for the driver of the vehicle, Wood said it was a woman and that she was not injured in the accident. No more details were available on the driver.

"There have been no charges so far," Wood said. "The accident is still under investigation."

Citizens Hose Company assisted on the call. Wood said the Delaware State Police Reconstruction Unit is assisting Smyrna Police on investigating the incident.
