A 60-year-old Harrington man died this weekend from injuries he suffered when a car struck his bicycle from behind late Saturday.

Donald C. Beach was riding his bike west on Jackson Ditch Road, just east of Rachel Drive, when a westbound 2001 Mercedes-Bens S430, driven by 32-year-old Harrington resident Marilene Shelton, struck the rear of his bicycle at about 9:55 p.m., according to state police.

The impact threw Beach onto a grassy area on the north side of the roadway, police said.

Beach was taken to Kent General Hospital in Dover before being transferred to Christiana Hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Shelton, who was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was not injured.

Police are still investigating the crash.
