The Milford Parks and Recreation Department has a five-week program aimed at keeping kids occupied and safe during the dog days of summer this year. Program participants get to go swimming, roller skating, and take fun field trips all over southern Delaware.

Program Highlights

The Milford Parks and Recreation Summer Playground 2012 is a five-week program keeping kids occupied and safe during the dog days of summer.  With revolving activities and a relatively low cost, children are encouraged to join the fun, meet up with school friends or make some new ones, and enjoy the long, hot days of the season.

Mondays are reserved for juggling, arts and crafts, and games galore.  There is no additional cost associated with Mondays.

It’s time for spin tricks, twirling, and racing around on four wheels with roller-skating on Tuesdays. There is an additional $6 fee for this activity and kids are encouraged to wear socks. Bring a lunch or take advantage of the $2.50 pizza and soda special.

The monotony of midweek gets broken up on Wednesdays with field trips scheduled for each week. There will be swimming at Lewes Beach, a trip to the Dover Air Base Museum followed by a picnic and a trip to the DuPont Nature Center at Slaughter Beach followed by a picnic on the beach.

Camp will be closed, however, on Wednesday, July 4 so everyone can celebrate Independence Day with his or her families.

Bodies and minds are activated on Thursdays with games, sports and plenty of arts and crafts. Thursday, July 5 will also feature a Reptile World Show with creepy crawlies of every kind on display for the amazement of all the campers.

SP2012’s “Going Away Party” is scheduled for the last Thursday of the program on July 19. Pick up and drop off times remain the same.

Who doesn’t want to close out the week with some swimming and poolside hijinks? For an additional $2, kids get to go swimming at The Rookery at Shawnee Country Club in Milton.  Children just come dressed to swim in their bathing suits and have towels to dry off with as well. The club’s snack bar will be open as well.
