Illinois allows late putback in overtime loss.

Defending the paint is a concern for the Illinois men's basketball team, and the New Zealand national team took advantage during an exhibition game in Forli, Italy, on Tuesday.   New Zealand scored on a putback with 2.8 seconds left to defeat the Illini 85-84 in overtime in the second of four exhibition games on the Italian tour for Illinois. The Illini took the lead on a driving layup by guard Brandon Paul with 9.7 seconds remaining.   Paul paced the Illini with 18 points but was 4-for-13 from the field. Guard Sam Maniscalco had 14 points on 5-for-8 shooting while forward Tyler Griffey finished with 13 points and four rebounds. He was 5-for-10 from the field. The Illini fell to 1-1 on the tour after shooting 36.1-percent, losing 20 turnovers and grabbing 21 steals. The Illini lost the rebounding battle 52-39.   "It was as physical of a game as we'll face all season,'' Illinois coach Bruce Weber said. "I wouldn't say we played great, but we played good.''   Former Wisconsin guard Kirk Penney led New Zealand with 22 points.   On Wednesday, the Illini scrimmage West Virginia at Aviano Air Base, where the Illini also play the Aviano varsity.
