A 24-year-old Greenwood man died early this morning in a single-car crash after he lost control of his car and struck a tree alongside Clendaniel Pond Road, police said.

Cpl. Bruce Harris of the Delaware State Police said Matthew B. Clark, 24, of Greenwood, was driving east on Clendaniel Pond Road near Lincoln at about 4 a.m. Friday when he failed to negotiate a sharp curve in the road and went off the roadway. Before he could regain control of the car, it struck a tree.

Clark died of his injuries at the scene of the crash.

“A preliminary Delaware State Police investigation suggests alcohol to have been a contributing factor in the crash,” Harris said.

Anyone with information on the circumstances of the accident should call the state police at 644-5020, ext. 112.
