Milford Parks &_Recreation will host the Sussex meet of the annual Hershey’s Track and Field Youth Program at Milford High School at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 6.
The meet is open to boys and girls ages 9 to 14, with seven events for each age group. All ages will hold a 100- and 200-meter dash, 4x100 meter relay, standing long jump and softball throw. 9- and 10-year-olds will run a 50- and 400-meter dash, 11- and 12-year-olds will run a 400-meter dash and an 800-meter run and 13-and 14-year-olds will run an 800-meter dash and a 1,600-meter run.
Registration is free and open to anyone enrolled in a Sussex County school district. Anyone who did not register through their school can sign up the day of the meet beginning at 9 a.m. Sign-ups close at 9:50 a.m. and the meet begins promptly at 10.
Children may enter up to three events. Anyone who enters all three must choose at least one running event and at least one field event — no one may enter three runs.
Shorts and T-shirts are the only required equipment. No spikes or starting blocks are permitted.
Top finishers will go on to compete at the state meet on Saturday, June 20, at Dover High School. Top finishers from that meet, and other state meets in the region, will be invited to Hershey, Pa., for the national meet in July.
In case of rain, the meet will be held at the same times on Sunday, June 7.
Students who attend school in Kent County can attend the Kent meet at Dover High School, also on June 6. That meet will be held at 9 a.m., rain or shine.
