Milford High School’s first state tournament football game in 34 years will be this Friday night, Nov. 21 against Wilmington Friends. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
Pre-sale tickets are still available in the main office at Milford High School. All tickets, whether purchased at the high school or at the gate prior to the game, cost $6.
In addition, fans are asked to bring items to donate to the Milford FFA’s canned food drive.
The Bucs are the top seed in Division II, and received a first round bye last week. Wilmington Friends, the fourth seed, earned the second round match up by beating Howard 26-20 in the opening round.
“If we come out and execute, I think we can play with anybody in the state,” Milford head coach Mike Tkach said. “They are a good, fundamental team that’s not going to make many mistakes. We have to counter that with our athletes, and by not making mistakes or stupid penalties.”
Tkach said the Bucs used the extra time off to rest up and get healthy, to clean up its play and, once they knew they were facing Friends, to prepare for their opponent.
“We’ve had two good weeks of practice going intothis game, and hopefully we can take care of business,” Tkach said.
The Quakers of Wilmington Friends finished the regular season 10-0, with wins over Woodbridge, Seaford, the Friends School of Baltimore, Pitman, Mt. Pleasant, St. Georges Technical School, Tatnall, Red Lion Christian, St. Andrews and Tower Hill.
Friends’ largest margin of victory was a 35-0 win over Seaford and a 47-12 win over Pitman. Their smallest margin of victory was a 28-26 win over Red Lion.
The winner of the Milford-Friends game will play the winner of the Laurel-Caravel game for the Division II State Championship next Friday night, Nov. 28 at Delaware State University.
