The Milford High School varsity basketball team's eight-game winning streak came to an end on Friday night thanks to a last-second tiebreaking basket by the Seaford Blue Jays that gave the Jays an 80-78 win on Milford's home court, dropping the Bucs to 8-2 overall this season.

The Bucs were ahead or tied for the entire game until the final second, when, following a block of Shane Letthand's attempted go-ahead goal, the Jays dropped in a lay-up right before the last buzzer sounded. A combination of stifling defense by the Jays - they allowed just nine points in the final quarter - and foul trouble for the Bucs allowed Seaford to climb back into the game after being down 11 points early on.

Starting out, the game looked like another Milford blowout. The Bucs scored eight points in less than two minutes before the Jays even got on the board, and a late rally by Seaford still only got them within 11. But from the second quarter on, it was a whole new story. The Jays' pressure defense forced the Bucs into turnovers and missed passes, and they managed to draw a number of crucial offensive fouls, especially late in the game. After scoring 12 points in the first quarter, Marques Jones, the team's leading scorer, was held to just seven the rest of the way.

At 8-2, the Bucs still hold a division-leading 5-1 record in the Henlopen North. Their next game is Tuesday evening, on the road against Caesar Rodney.
