The top four seeds advance to quarterfinals; upsets against the five, six and seven seeds

No. 1 Padua Academy, No. 2 Archmere Academy, No. 3 Ursuline Academy and No. 4 Charter School of Wilmington all advanced Saturday night; Padua downed No. 16 Cape Henlopen 3-0, Archmere swept No. 15 Indian River three games to none, Ursuline beat No. 14 Red Lion 3-0 and Charter handled No. 13 Friends, 3-1.

There were upsets in the matches involving seeds five, six and seven.

No. 11 Tower Hill knocked out No. 6 Delaware Military Academy, joining No. 10 St. Mark’s, who defeated No. 7 Smyrna, and No. 12 Newark Charter, who won against No. 5 Delmarva Christian, as the lower seeds advanced.

After shocking No. 9 Caesar Rodney in the opening round, No. 24 St. Georges Tech saw its run come to an end Saturday night, as No. 8 Conrad advanced to the quarterfinals with a 3-0 victory.

The DIAA Volleyball Quarterfinals are scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 6 with doubleheaders at St. Mark’s and St. Elizabeth starting at 6 p.m.
