While graduations throughout the state have marked the end of the 2017-2018 school year, the postseason athletic awards for the Milford Buccaneers keep coming in.

After posting a competitive season on the diamond this year, three members of the Buccaneer’s baseball program earned all-state honors.

Seniors Bryce Greenly and Caden Oplinger, along with sophomore Chad Reichhold were among 16 Henlopen Conference players to make the all-state list.

Greenly spent all four years on the varsity team at Milford after making the team as a freshman. During his four years, playing in the outfield and contributing on the mound, Greenly helped the Buccaneers make the DIAA Baseball State Tournament three times.

Meanwhile, fellow senior Oplinger, played two seasons at the varsity level at Milford, playing in the infield and at DH. He was a member of last year’s Milford team which made the postseason, along with helping the team to an 8-10 mark this past season.

Greenly was named second-team all-state for his work in the outfield, while Oplinger earned third-team all-state honors at DH.

“Bryce and Caden were steady performers who held down the middle of our lineup this season,” said Milford Baseball Head Coach Nicholas Brannan. “Caden’s work ethic was second to none. Bryce’s athleticism gave our pithers confidence that he was going to make every play for them. We’ll miss them both dearly.”

After making the team as a freshman last season, Reichhold broke out this past season with a number of solid outings on the bump, helping solidify the Bucs’ pitching staff.

At a crowded position, Reichhold was named a third-team all-state pitcher.

“Chad is very coachable and is driven,” Brannan said. “Chad will only continue to improve as his career progresses. He’s working hard to sharpen his mechanics and refine his secondary pitches. He’s been a joy for our staff to have and we are fortunate to have him for the next two seasons.”
