There’s a lot riding on the Friday night games this week if you’re a high school football fan.
It’s the last game of the regular season for all the teams and a W is going to make the difference between making the playoffs and becoming a bystander for a trio of the downstate teams.
Milford’s looking good with it’s 6-3 record but so does Caesar Rodney with its 6-3 record and remember, CR beat Milford earlier this season. Sussex Tech at 8-1 rounds out the top downstate Division I contenders for the state playoffs but the one loss came at the hands of Milford.
It’s all going to come down to this Friday’s outcome.
Tech is playing Polytech 1-8; Milford is playing Lake Forest 7-2; and Caesar Rodney is playing Dover 5-4.
Though Tech probably won’t have a hard time winning their matchup, Milford and Caesar Rodney could be upset which would cause quite a shuffling of the top playoff spots. Throw in 6-3 Middletown’s game against Brandywine 0-9 and it’s just one more piece of the mixed up pie.
If I were going to bet on this, I would say Milford’s in a pretty good spot right now and should come out with a W against Lake Forest. But these cross-town rivalries can be pretty unpredictable.
Just look back at last year’s Dover-CR game, which Dover won despite CR’s eventual march on to the state championship trophy.
When those old rivalries kick in, records go out the window and it becomes a sheer matter of bragging rights for the players. They’re in there to win no matter what.
So there’s a lot riding on this Friday for all the big players out there.
Best of luck to all and may the best team win.

Moving toward a respectable dress code in our public schools makes so much sense on so many levels these days. The Milford School District should be applauded for its efforts to create one for the district.
Not only will questionable clothing no longer be a distraction for the students, but it will end the age-old fights between children and parents over what their going to wear.
Oh, to have a closet full of khaki pants and simple white or solid color shirts for them to pick from and the satisfaction that they won’t come downstairs ready for school looking like the star of the latest music video or teen TV show. What joy.
It’s a great idea and one parents are going to very happy with.
