Willard James Millman, Sr. of Milford passed away Thursday, June 18, 2009 at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford surrounded by his family. He was 82.
Mr. Millman was born on August 27, 1926 in Lincoln, son of the late Floyd C. and Elva (Coverdale) Millman.
He worked as a heavy equipment operator and truck driver for several construction companies in Delaware before moving to Milford Neck to farm with his father in 1954. He retired from farming in 2005.
Among the many outdoor activities that he enjoyed were salt water fishing, vegetable gardening, hunting with his rabbit dogs and harness racing. He was also a devoted fan of Phillies baseball.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Millman was preceded in death by a sister, S. Alline Arnold and a brother, Teddy Millman.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betty Mae Virden Millman, formerly of Wilmington; his daughter, Joyce Miller and her husband Ray of West Point, VA; eight sons, Willard Millman, Jr. and his wife Yvonne of Milford, Ronnie Millman of Smyrna, Marvin Millman and his wife Kathy of Milford, Ricky Millman and his wife Bonnie of Felton, Dale Millman and his wife Renee of Milford, Kenny Millman and his wife Cheri of Milford, Alvin Millman and his fiancé Carrie Jester of Milford and Alan Millman and his fiancé Sandy Thompson of Milford; a sister, Irene Bushey and her husband George of Marietta, GA; eight grandchildren; Kelly Scarborough, Karin Stone, Scott Millman, Willard Millman III, Nicole Millman, Ashley Millman, Erin Millman and Aidan Millman; three great grandchildren; Bryant Stone, Shea Millman and Michael Currence, Jr. and his beloved dog Annie.
Services were held Monday, June 22, 2009 at Rogers Funeral Home, Milford. Interment was in the Lincoln Cemetery in Lincoln.
