Reverend Moyer went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Nov. 3, 2008 at Bayhealth - Kent General Hospital. He was 79.
Rev. Moyer was born May 18, 1929 in Staunton, Va. to the late Edward and Malissa Moyer.
He graduated from Dunsmore Business College in Staunton, Vs. in 1951, and received his training in pastoral care at the United Wesleyan College in Allentown, Pa. He began his ministry at Greensboro Wesleyan Church in Greensboro, Md. in 1955. Over the next 38 years, Rev. Moyer pastored several area churches, including Georgetown Wesleyan Church, Milford Aldersgate and finally as interim pastor at Pilgrim Chapel in Harrington, where he retired in 1993.
In the early 1970s, he began Capital Business Services in Dover, which he operated for many years, providing accounting services for several local businesses. He was also a State of Delaware employee from 1979 to 1995, where he retired as an analyst for the Public Service Corporation.
Rev. Moyer lived to serve others and to share the Word. His main focus in life was his family, but his calling was helping others. A few of the ways that he helped others was by serving as the District Treasurer for the Wesleyan District, and as the Chief Financial Officer for the Wesleyan Christian School in Denton, Maryland. He will be remembered as a very devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a minister that you could depend on being there when you needed him.
Rev. Moyer was a member of the Trinity Wesleyan Church of Dover.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Etta Mae Moyer of Dover; his daughter and son in law, Debra and Bert Allen of Forest, Va.; his son and daughter in law, Gary W. and Melissa Moyer of Magnolia; brother and sister in law, Lelon and Delores Moyer of Swoope, Va.; 4 grandchildren Rachel Moyer, Laura Allen, Sidney “Chip” Allen III, Amy Allen; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008 at Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington. Interment was in Milford Community Cemetery.
