Jane I. Melvin, 82, of Harrington died Jan. 30, 2010. She was born in Lewes to the late John Carpenter and Blanche Carpenter-Mitchell.
Mrs. Melvin worked at the Laytex and Playtex companies, the Dress Factory in Harrington and also as a homemaker. She always kept a tidy home and loved to cook and clean. She was known to move her furniture all around quite frequently. She loved sitting on the porch looking at the garden and fishpond that her late husband built for her in their back yard. Visits from her family, especially her grandchildren, always made her the most happy and she looked forward to their visits. She loved her family immensely and they in turn loved her, and will she be sadly missed.
She was a member of the Calvary Wesleyan Church, and also attended the Ashbury Methodist Church, and the Harrington Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband Roland “Uncle Jr.” Melvin; son J. Wayne Melvin; brothers Jack, Bobby and Harry Carpenter; sisters Donia Dodd and Pauline Pepper
She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law Nancy F. and Emerson Brooks of Jay, Maine and Rhonda L. and Kim Hitchens of Harrington; sister Regenia Brown of Harrington; grandchildren Jennifer Workman, Kristal Lloyd, Amanda Landrey, Joey Melvin, Jordan McCloskey and Zachey Melvin; and nine great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3, at Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington. Visitation will be one-hour prior to the service and interment will be at Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.
