Pauline B. “Polly” Ward, of Milford, died Thursday, April 30, 2009 at home. She was 81.
Mrs. Ward was the daughter of the late Stephen and Susan Bakota. She worked at Montgomery Ward as an assistant manager for many years until the store closed. She was a member of Houston United Methodist Church. She enjoyed doing things for others, especially sewing, crocheting and baking. She also enjoyed gardening and canning.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Todd Layton, in 2004; five brothers: Michael Bakota, Andrew Bakota, Steve Bakota, Andrew Kovach and William Kovach; and two sisters, Irene Kaplan and Katherine Smith.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, William A. Ward; a son, William Michael Ward, of Milford; two daughters, Donna Layton and her husband Bruce, of Randleman, N.C., and Sandra Nickerson and her fiancé Ray Truitt, of Harrington; two grandchildren, Daryl Layton and Jenna White; three great grandchildren: Ashley Layton, Kasyn White and Kiersyn White; and two sisters, Mary Hendricks and Julia Campber, both of Harrington.
Funeral services were held Sunday, May 3, 2009 at the Lofland Funeral Home, Milford. Burial was in the Milford Community Cemetery, Milford.
