Elwood A. “Pete” Pierson Jr. of Milford, formerly of Cherry Hill and Magnolia, N.J., died Saturday, May 9, 2009, at Milford Memorial Hospital, Bayhealth Medical Center. He was 84.
Mr. Pierson was born in Upland, Pa. the son of the late Elwood A. Pierson, Sr. and Jenny (Davis) Pierson.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during WW II. After the war, he worked for Texaco as a foreman, retiring after 35 years. Elwood was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Laurel Springs, N.J., where he was a 32nd Degree Mason. He enjoyed fishing, baseball and horse racing. He loved to cook and was known for his delicious soups and fried crabs.
He was preceded in death by his wife Marian (Yuknevitch) Pierson and a brother William Pierson.
He is survived by two sons David Howard Pierson Sr. and his wife Eileen of Milford, and Elwood John Pierson and his wife Robin of Westville, N.J.; one daughter Susan M. Stevenson and her husband George of Betterton, Md.; grandchildren David Howard Pierson Jr, Dana Lynn Pierson, Jennifer Lee Hanwell, Eric Pierson, Stephanie Sommerkamp and Jeffrey Pierson; great-grandchildren Jacob Tyler Pierson, Sarah Elizabeth Pierson, Brandon Miller, Elizabeth Marie Hanwell, Jessica Eileen Hanwell, Sebastian Pierson and Jayson Sommerkamp, and one brother Thomas Pierson of Greensboro, N.C.
Funeral services were held May 13, 2009, at the Lofland Funeral Home, Milford. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 14, at Lawn Croft Cemetery, 1000 W. Ridge Road, Linwood, Pa.
