Dorothy Mae Bell of Harrington, formerly of Milford, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009 at her home. She was 74.

She was born on May 11, 1935 in Milford the daughter of the late Elmer O. and Sarah Ruth “Bennett” Torbert.

During her working years, Dorothy was a seamstress for Coopersmith, Milford Stitching, Draperies Etc. and also worked as a Nurse’s Aide for Jewell’s Nursing Home, Milford Manor and Courtland Manor.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, crocheting, knitting and working on plastic canvas. She was very excited about her first expected great grandchild.

Preceding her in death were her parents; four sisters Elizabeth Ann George, Betty Ellen Stapleford, Sarah Patsy McBride and Margaret Aileen Torbert; a brother F. John Torbert; a son-in-law Clair E. Church; and her husband of 31 years, James “Jim” Butler.

Surviving her are two daughters Dorothy E. Butler and her companion, Harold “Barney Clendaniel of Camden, Sara K. Kimmey and her husband Robert A. of Harrington; four grandchildren Nancy E. and Steven Adams of Magnolia, Michael A. Church-Kimmey of Harrington, James M. Butler of Camden, Jennifer L. Kimmey of Harrington; four brothers George E. and Carol Torbert, William James and Cathy Torbert, both of Milford, Ernest W. Torbert of Harrington, Robert T. and Carmen Torbert  of Virginia and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 28, in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 N.W. Front St., Milford, where friends may call 7-9 p.m. Sunday. Interment will be in Barratts Chapel Cemetery, Frederica. Flowers accepted or contributions may be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 702-B Kirkwood Hwy., Wilmington, DE 19805.
