Delaware's Medicaid participants who get their prescriptions filled at Walgreen's-Happy Harry's now have an additional 30 days to do so, if they choose. The drug store chain has agreed to remain a Medicaid provider for that period of time so they can continue to work with Delaware's Department of Health and Social Services over the state's decision to reduce its Medicaid reimbursement rates to pharmacies, according to a press release from the Department.
Walgreen's had previously announced it would end participation in the state's Medicaid program on July 6. The company now will continue to remain a participant until at least August 5.
"I am pleased that both sides are at the table to look for a permanent solution that benefits everyone, including Delaware's taxpayers and Medicaid enrollees," said Department of Health and Social Services Secretary Rita Landgraf.
Walgreen's senior vice president of pharmacy Kermit Crawford said, "This extension gives both of us needed time to work out an agreement without impacting pharmacy care to Medicaid recipients. We're hopeful a compromise will be reached."
