In its 12th year of sponsorship, i.g. Burton’s BMW test drive event raised $6,192 for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation for breast cancer research.
Honored at the fundraising event were local “hero” Linda Webb-Jenkins, of Milford, and her family. The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition and the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation cited Webb-Jenkins, a 12-year cancer survivor, as an outstanding example of an area resident that has conquered this most common form of cancer, which is the second leading cause of death for women in the United States.
The i.g. Burton-BMW event attracted participants from all over Delmarva who racked up nearly 300 test drives totaling over 6,000 miles, which accounted for matching dollar donations from BMW. Dozens of individual cash donations were also received.
“We appreciate the generosity of our many friends and customers,” said i.g. Burton President Charlie Burton, “and the privilege of being part of this program.”
In addition to a special floral arrangement and “hero” plaque award for program honoree Webb-Jenkins, who was also a participating test-driver, the event was highlighted with a framed certificate of appreciation presentation to i.g. Burton.
Bernadette White, from the Philadelphia Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, presented i.g. Burton management team members Peter Renzi, George Schifferer and Michael Lofland with a handsome framed certificate of appreciation for the 100-year-old dealership’s continued support of breast cancer research.
Employees of i.g. Burton’s Milford and Seaford locations staffed information tables, served complimentary snacks and beverages, and distributed pink balloons and numerous gifts to participants and guests. One featured test drive participant was Jillian Olaogun, a Delaware State University – Dover Outreach Intern serving with the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition.
At the completion of their 2008 nationwide “BMW Ultimate Drive” program, BMW dealers are expected to have raised a total of over $13 million for breast cancer research since 1997.
