A Milford woman and two young girls were killed Monday afternoon in a accident that happened off of Route 1 in Milford, according to a Monday night Milford Police Department announcement.

At about 1:45 p.m. on Monday, April 13, the Milford Police responded to a motor vehicle collision on Bay Road (Delaware Route 1), just south of New Wharf Rd.

The investigation reveals that a 1995 Buick Century operated by 65-year-old Sandra Peterman of Milford was on the Northbound Shoulder of Route 1, about ¼ mile south of the New Wharf Rd/Tub Mill Pond Rd intersection.

Peterman is the wife of Milford resident and Kent County Levy Court Commissioner Harold Jack Peterman.

A 2004 Peterbilt propane delivery truck operated by 50-year-old George Marvel of Milton was northbound on Route 1 and was traveling in the right hand lane prior to the collision.

The propane truck collided with the Buick on the shoulder of the road. Peterman and two passengers, 9-year-old Madison Peterman of Milford and 9-year-old Hannah Davies of Frederica were pronounced dead at the scene. Marvel was not injured.

The Milford Police Department Accident Investigation Unit is conducting the accident investigation. The Delaware State Police Motor Carrier Safety Unit assisted at the scene. The Carlisle Fire Department and Houston Fire Department responded to and secured the accident scene. No charges have been filed at the time of this release. All persons involved were wearing a seatbelt. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the collision.
