Jay Davidson, 23, a patrol officer in the Milford Police Department, was involved in an accident on Route 113 near Dover Air Force Base on the morning of Nov. 26.
According to the Delaware State Police, eyewitnesses reported at approximately 10:54 a.m. that it was reported a fully marked Milford police car, operated by officer Davidson in uniform, sideswiped a 2007 Kia Spectra, driven by Catherine A. Yaeger, 20, of Harrington, while driving northing on Route 113 near Clapham Road. Yaeger had been in the northbound left-hand turn lane, waiting to turn onto Clapham Road. The police car was observed continuing northbound after the crash.
Investigators learned the police vehicle continued northbound, crossed arker’s Landing Bridge and then drove off the east edge of the roadway and into a field. The car then traveled several hundred feet, re-entered the roadway crossing the northbound lanes, center grass median, southbound lanes and exiting the west edge of the road coming to rest in a wooded area.
Davidson was wearing a seat belt and sustained minor injuries. He was taken by ambulance to Kent General Hospital in Dover. Yaeger was also wearing a seat belt and was not injured. Alcohol is not a factor in the crash.
Preliminary investigation suggests that Davidson may have been suffering from a medical condition, which in turn may have caused the crash, but investigation is ongoing.
