Harrington boy charged with attempted rape
The Harrington Police Department has charged a 14-year-old Harrington male with assault and attempted rape against an 11-year-old girl.

The boy was charged with two counts of attempted rape in the second degree, sexual extortion, assault in the third degree and carrying a concealed dangerous instrument on Monday, July 7, and is being held at Stevenson House.

According to police, the accused, an acquaintance of the victim, arrived at the victim’s home and allegedly attempted to engage in unlawful sexual conduct against her. The victim attempted to free herself, at which time the accused kicked the victim in the leg area. She was then allegedly attacked again by the accused and was again able to free herself and flee.

A police report says that the accused allegedly threatened to kill the victim if she didn’t try to rape a friend.

Police also learned that the accused had allegedly spoken about becoming a “Blood” gang member, and said that committing rape is part of becoming a gang member. He also claimed to be carrying a knife.

Following the incident, police arrived and took the accused into custody. The victim was interviewed by the Child Advocacy Center and the accused was later charged. The accused was processed at the Harrington Police Department, arraigned at Justice of the Peace No. 7, and committed to the Stevenson House on a $23,500 secured bond pending a future hearing at Kent County Family Court. 

State police searching for assault suspect
The Delaware State Police are seeking the public’s assistance with locating a 20-year-old Dover man wanted in connection with a serious assault that occurred on March 16.

Thomas M. Gilbert is wanted for second-degree assault, a felony, stemming from an incident that occurred in the parking lot of Rodney Village Shopping center, just south of Dover. Investigators report that a 16-year-old Dover man was walking in the area of Club Kids at approximately 11:55 p.m., when he was approached by several subjects. Gilbert allegedly struck the victim in the face with his hands, causing severe injury to his jaw. The victim did not know Gilbert and according to police played no role in provoking the attack.

Police have obtained arrest warrants for Gilbert and have made numerous attempts to locate him without success. Anyone with information of Gilbert’s whereabouts is asked to call 911, investigators at Troop 3 at 697-4455, ext. 0 or Crime Stoppers at 800-TIP-3333.

Robbery suspect sought

The Harrington Police Department is investigating an armed robbery that took place at People’s Restaurant on Thursday, July 3. The unknown suspect, carrying a handgun, entered the restaurant via a rear door after the business had closed, took out a gun, described as a black semi-automatic pistol, apparently 9 mm caliber, and demanded money from four employees at gunpoint. He took an undisclosed amount of cash and fled out the rear door. According to the police, the suspect is described as a thin, 6-foot tall white male. He wore a dark mask and gloves during the robbery, brown shorts with red trim, a white sleeveless T-shirt and white shoes with red trim. After the robbery, he fled westward. According to tips that police received, he was last seen fleeing toward Farmington Road. Police are asking anyone with information on the suspect to call the Harrington Police Department at 398-4493 or the Delaware Crime Stoppers at 800-TIP-3333.
