Officers with the New Castle County DUI Task Force arrested 13 individuals for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) of alcohol last weekend (Nov. 14th & 15th). This brings the total number of people arrested for DUI during the 2008 “Checkpoint Strikeforce” campaign to 413.
In addition to the weekend’s 13 DUI arrests, officers issued five citations for underage drinking violations, apprehended four wanted individuals, made two drug arrests, two felony arrests, issued four seat belt citations, three child restraint citation, and 47 citations for various other traffic violations. Officers from the Laurel Police Department also conducted DUI saturation patrols over the weekend and arrested an additional six wanted individuals, made two drug arrests and issued six citations for other traffic violations.
Seven sobriety checkpoints are scheduled for the coming weekend (Nov. 21 & 22). The following are the scheduled checkpoints:
Friday Nov. 21st - Newark - NcCo DUI Task Force; Newport – DSP Troop 6; Clayton – joint Smyrna/Clayton PD checkpoint; Dover – Dover PD; Rehoboth Beach – Rehoboth Beach PD
Saturday Nov. 22nd – Millsboro – Millsboro PD; Milford – Milford PD
The checkpoints are part of OHS’s ongoing Checkpoint Strikeforce campaign. Now in its seventh year, “Checkpoint Strikeforce” is a multi-state crackdown on impaired drivers coordinated locally by the Delaware Office of Highway Safety. Participating law enforcement agencies are conducting weekly DUI checkpoints through New Year’s Eve, and monthly checkpoints in the spring, all with the goal of at deterring impaired drivers and arresting DUI offenders.
