Harrington police have charged Christopher J. Santiago, 23, of Harrington, with two armed robberies that took place about three hours apart, on the night of Nov. 7 and early morning on Nov. 8.
Police responded to the first robbery at 9:06 p.m. on Nov. 7, at the Bridal Bit.
According to police reports, the suspect entered the store with a hood over his face, displayed what appeared to be a pistol to the clerk, and obtained approximately $400. The suspect then fled the scene on a bike.
At 12:16 a.m., Harrington police responded to another robbery, this time at the local Holiday Inn.
The suspect was described as wearing the same clothes and displaying the same weapon as in the Bridal Bit robbery.
Police later received a complaint from a citizen in reference to the accused, who was attempting to sell a weapon.
During their investigation, police learned that the accused was the suspect in both robberies from that night.
Police executed a search warrant at 103 N. West St. and recovered the weapon that was later identified as a replica of an automatic firearm pistol.
The accused arrived at the residence as officer were searching the property and was taken into custody.
The accused was processed at Harrington Police Department, arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 7, and committed to Sussex Correctional Institute on a $62,600 cash bond pending a future hearing at Kent County Court of Common Pleas.
Santiago was charged on Nov. 9 with first-degree robbery, first-degree attempted robbery, seven counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, three counts of aggravated menacing, two counts of wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony, three counts of second-degree reckless endangering, theft under $1,000, attempted theft under $1,000 and trespassing.
