Incidents in Seaford, Millsboro

Two fatal crashes occurred over the weekend in Sussex County, in Seaford and Millsboro.

The Seaford incident occurred on Sussex Highway (Route 13) on Friday, November 2, just before 10 p.m. A bicyclist was traveling northbound on the northbound shoulder, just off the edge of the right lane, in the area of Rommel Harley Davidson. A 29-year-old Georgetown man, driving a Dodge Ram pickup truck, drifted onto the shoulder and struck the bicycle.

The bicyclist, 56-year-old Jorge Melendez Claudio, of Greenwood, was not wearing a helmet. He was transported to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

According to police, the driver of the Ram did not appear impaired. Impairment on behalf of the victim is undetermined.

The Millsboro incident occurred on Mount Joy Road, just north of Cordrey Road, at around 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 3. Due to high speed, a Chevrolet Trailblazer traveling northbound failed to negotiate a moderate right curve and struck a telephone pole.

The driver, 32-year-old Kristin F. Fell, of Millsboro, was not properly restrained and was transported to Beebe Medical Center, where she was pronounced deceased. Police have not yet determined if impairment was a factor.
