50-year-old Maurice Thomas arrested

Laurel police arrested a New Jersey man after finding 11 pounds of marijuana during a traffic stop.

On Tuesday, May 8, Laurel Police Department patrol officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of Sussex Highway and Georgetown Road. The operator was identified as 50-year-old Maurice Thomas, of New Jersey.

While officers were speaking with Thomas they detected an odor of marijuana emitting from the interior of the vehicle, and a search of the vehicle was conducted. Officers located a large bag in the trunk that was found to contain 10.9 pounds (4,944 grams) of marijuana.

Thomas was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $80,001 secured bail.
