A fire caused an estimated $100,000 damage to a building in downtown Milford Tuesday, but no injuries were reported.
The blaze was reported at 6:15 a.m. in the unit block of Northwest Front Street at the Nice and Fresh Barbershop, said Chief Deputy State Fire Marshal B. Scott Bullock.
When firefighters from the Carlisle Fire Company of Milford responded to the report, they saw fire coming from the first floor windows at the rear of the structure. Assistance was requested from several neighboring fire companies. An aggressive interior attack by firefighters brought the blaze uner control at 7:20 a.m., Bullock said.
No injuries were reported.
The building has businesses on the first floor and apartment units on the second and third floors. No damage was sustained to the third floor units, and only minor damage was sustained to a second floor unit.
The unit involved in the fire was the Nice and Fresh Barbershop, with an attached clothing store all run by the same tenant.
Deputy state fire marshals investigated and determined the cause of the fire was an operating light fixture in the rear of the store that failed and ignited combustible materials in the clothing store.
Significant damage happened to the clothing store portion. The barbershop and the business next to the shop received smoke and water damage.
Damage is estimated at $100,000, Bullock said.
