John L. Morris is being held at the Sussex Correctional Institution.

Milford police have arrested a local man on a number of drug-related charges after he was stopped for a vehicle equipment violation.

Department spokesman Sgt. Robert Masten said the traffic stop took place at about 2:31 p.m. Saturday, April 21 in the 600 block of NW Front Street.

Police stopped the 2005 Buick, driven by 38-year-old John L. Morris, and learned Morris was carrying 1,071 bags of heroin, 30.5 grams of marijuana, pills, brass knuckles, drug paraphernalia, and United States currency, Masten said.

Morris is charged with possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, possession of a controlled substance in a Tier 5 quantity (more than five grams), and two counts of possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance. He also is charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, operating a vehicle with improper window tinting, and carrying a concealed deadly weapon.

He was ordered held at the Sussex Correctional Institution on a $31,241 secured bond.
