Quajan A. Daniels, 23, of Dover was arrested after a traffic stop on southbound Route 1 near Smyrna-Leipsic Road.
During a traffic stop for speeding in Smyrna Friday, Delaware State Police arrested a Dover man wanted for traffic violations and then discovered a concealed, loaded handgun.
The arrest happened Friday, April 13 at about 12:30 a.m., as a trooper was on traffic enforcement on Route 1 north of exit 119 north of Smyrna.
The trooper saw two southbound vehicles speeding.
A traffic stop was conducted on both vehicles on Route 1 southbound near Smyrna-Leipsic Road.
The first vehicle was a 2012 Hyundai Sonata, and the driver was identified as Quajan A. Daniels, 23, of Dover. A computer check revealed Daniels was wanted on three previous traffic capiases.
A search was conducted of the vehicle, and a fully-loaded handgun was found with additional ammunition inside the vehicle, police said.
Daniels was taken into custody without incident and taken to Troop 9 in Odessa, where he was charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon and speeding, police said.
He was arraigned before Justice of the Peace Court 7 on those charges and the other traffic capiases. He was committed to James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in default of $2,500 secured bond while awaiting another court appearance.
The second vehicle was a 2006 Honda Accord and the driver was issued a traffic citation and released.
