Gov. John Carney will demonstrate the new enhanced 911 feature “Text to 911” at 9:15 a.m. March 5 at Cpl. Paul J. Sweeney Public Safety Building, 3601 N. Dupont Highway, New Castle.
Robert Coupe, secretary of the Delaware Department of Safety and Homeland Security, will demonstrate the product at 2 p.m. March 5 at Sussex County Emergency Operations Center, 21911 Rudder Lane, Georgetown.
Delaware’s 911 centers have begun accepting emergency requests for help via text message. Individuals living or traveling through Delaware can send text messages to 911 centers. While texting to 911 is available, it should only be utilized when making a call is not possible.
