Milford Ward 1 City Councilman Archie Campbell filed to run for mayor Feb. 15.

Retired from the corporate world as director of operations at Loreal Lancome, Campbell has been a city councilman for the past two years, plus seven years on the Milford Planning & Zoning Commission.

“I believe the city has done a lot to improve the lives of residents in Milford, and I want to see that our ability to create jobs and improve the quality of life for our residents continues,” said Campbell.

“Large projects like the Bayhealth Sussex Campus, Nemours and Nationwide will need leadership that understands the challenges ahead. These capital projects will help current employers expand and new businesses invest in Milford.”

In an effort to continue growing the private economy, Campbell believes it is important that the city focuses on efforts to rehabilitate roads and infrastructure and increase family recreational opportunities to improve the quality of life for residents as well as newcomers to the area. Campbell has worked on council to promote more economic development downtown and build an environment to spur local business expansion and a more walkable, bikeable community.

“We want residents to be proud of the town they live in and our businesses to have the ability to attract employees that choose to live in Milford,” said Campbell.

As councilman, Campbell has championed efforts to lower electric rates, invest in aging infrastructure and increase public transportation. He has helped to balance two budgets without tax increases and voted for legislation that led to the proactive collection of tax delinquent properties by the city of Milford.

Campbell also works as a substitute teacher at the Milford Central Academy and Milford High School. He is an active volunteer in Milford, serving as a member of the Milford Lions Club and coaching the Milford High School Swim Team. He also founded the Milford Marlins, the swim team for the Greater Milford Boys & Girls Club. He and his wife, Veronica “Ronnie,” have two children, Arthur and Monica.
