The Brain Injury Association of Delaware will offer grants to fund the prevention of concussions in youth.

The grant program, BrainStrong, will provide up to $1,000 per grant to schools, athletic clubs, and nonprofits that want to implement a program that keeps the brain protected. The deadline to apply is Feb. 20. The grants will be awarded March 14. Information and applications can be found at biaofde.org/brainstrong2018.

The grant funds must be used for education or creating a safer playing environment for youth with an emphasis in youth athletics. Past grant funds have been used for programs such as concussion research, gym padding, coach’s education opportunities relating to concussion in sports and guest speaker costs. The purpose of this grant is not to replace normal fundraising of nonprofit programs, but provide additional money for concussion prevention, education and research.
