The Milton Historical Society is seeking residents to serve as museum docents at its Lydia Black Cannon Museum in downtown Milton.

Docents are the museum hosts who welcome visitors and act as guides and interpreters of the exhibit. Since the museum re-opened in April 2006, more than 70 people have participated in docent training and now volunteer regularly.

The docent training program is a way to learn about the history of the area, as well as how to share that knowledge with visitors to the museum.

Docents are required to attend a three-session training class and commit themselves to a minimum of four hours volunteer time per month between Memorial Day and Labor Day. In addition, they will attend two continuing education events per year and volunteer for a minimum of four hours per quarter in the off seasons.

The next training class will be held from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Nov. 4, 11 and 18.
