UPDATE: With the assistance of the public, the Rehoboth Beach Police were able to identify the suspect in this case as 54-year-old Ronald J. Phelan, of Rehoboth Beach, and arrested him Wednesday morning.
Investigators were unable to identify or confirm the theft of any merchandise in this case, however, Phelan was charged with felony second-degree assault. He was later released on $5,000 unsecured bail.
The Rehoboth Beach Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance to in identifying a theft suspect.
On Saturday, Sept. 16, at around 1:30 p.m., the suspect entered a store located in the first block of Rehoboth Avenue, removed jewelry from a display and left the store. When confronted by the store clerk, a 78-year-old male, the suspect responded by punching him in the face, causing a minor laceration.
The stolen merchandise is valued at under $100.00.
