Jorge L. Romero was arrested after the victim spotted him in Walmart

Milford police have arrested Jorge L. Romero, 37, in connection with a knife attack and robbery.

Sept. 14 in the area of Marshall and Franklin streets, department spokesman Sgt. Robert Masten said in a press release, the victim told police a man came up to him, slashed him with a knife and tried to rifle his pockets. The suspect ran away after the victim said he was going to call the police.

The victim, whose name was not released, was taken to Bayhealth Hospital Milford Campus for treatment. Police could not find the suspect, Masten said.

Three days later, the victim told police he had spotted the suspect in Wal-Mart, prompting officers to go to the store and find the man. Romero gave a false name but was taken into custody.

A search of his person turned up drug paraphernalia and store items Romero had not paid for, Masten said.

Romero faces charges of shoplifting, criminal impersonation, possession of drug paraphernalia, attempted robbery, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony, and assault.

He is jailed at the Sussex Correctional Institution, Georgetown, on a $69,500 secured bond.
