James Catts, 50, was taken into custody Sunday.
Milford police have arrested a Smyrna man on DUI charges following a traffic stop on Route 1.
James Catts, 50, was taken into custody Sunday, department spokesman Det. Timothy Maloney said Tuesday.
The case began at about 8:46 p.m. Sept. 3 when a patrol officer spotted Catts’ vehicle being driven erratically on Route 1 near Route 14. The officer stopped the Dodge Ram and conducted a DUI investigation after noticing a strong smell of alcohol coming from the vehicle and Catts’ person. The officer also learned Catts had a firearm in his possession while being under the influence.
Two children found in the vehicle were turned over to a guardian.
Maloney said Catts is charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child while driving under the influence, and one count each of possession of a firearm while under the influence, driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, and failure to remain within a single lane.
Catts was arraigned and released to a sober individual on a $2001 unsecured bail, with an order to appear in Kent County Court of Common Pleas at a later date.
