Gov. John Carney was joined by state, county and local politicians and hundreds of Bayhealth employees Tuesday as they held a traditional topping off ceremony for the medical group’s new hospital south of Milford.

Almost everyone present, including Carney and Lt. Gov. Bethany Hall-Long signed one of three white beams that marked the completion of the hospital’s framework. With all structural work complete, efforts now begin to fill in the remainder of the hospital complex.

The Bayhealth Medical Center’s Sussex Campus is due to open in January 2019.

The center beam was festooned with American and Delaware flags as well as an evergreen cutting, a tradition dating back centuries.

The complex should bring about $300 million in investments to the Milford area and Sussex County noted Milford Mayor Brian Shupe.
